Dick Bere: A Retired Kroger’s President Finds Free Supplies for Teachers

Dick Bere retired as the President and Chief Operating Officer of The Kroger Co in 1997. For twelve years,he served as the full-time volunteer Chief Operating Officer for Crayons to Computers. Crayons to Computers (C2C), is an innovative, non-profit free store for school teachers. He spends more than 50 volunteer hours per week at the warehouse, serving every capacity. Since its beginning in 1997, C2C has distributed over $60 million worth of school supplies to 95,000 children in the Greater Cincinnati area. Mr. Beres leadership, budget and inventory management skills, and retail expertise have been invaluable. Dicks leadership for the national Kids in Need Foundation has also resulted in the opening and networking of 32 additional teacher free stores around the country.
